There are step by step processes schools use to promote safe, supportive and disciplined learning environments. The Safe, supportive and disciplined school environment procedure provides information to principals about different behaviour and discipline options, such as detentions, suspensions, discipline improvement plans, community service interventions, exclusions and cancellations of enrolment.
Advice is also provided to principals on other strategies that can help to manage student behaviour including time out. Students who have time out are to be supervised at all times. Processes are also included for the use of physical restraint. Physical restraint is only used in an emergency situation where either the student or others may be harmed, or as part of a student's approved individual plan. A copy of the student's individual plan must be provided to the principal's supervisor.
