All state schools are required to have a Responsible behaviour plan for students that articulates a range of responses including whole-school, targeted and intensive behaviour support as a means of facilitating positive learning and responsible behaviour in students.

When bullying is reported, school staff need to follow the school's policy and procedures.

Students are encouraged to tell someone if they are bullied. It is important to listen carefully and respectfully to the student's concerns and take action.

The following flowchart (PDF, 115KB) provides strategies on how to respond to a student who may report a bullying incident or concern to you. You can also download an information sheet (PDF, 189KB) that provides key messages to talk through with the student. If you are unsure of how to deal with allegations of bullying, or do not think the allegations are being addressed, talk to a school leader and discuss what you can do.
